The Pomona Church of Christ is active in several important ministries.
Beautiful 60's
The Beautiful 60’s is the name given to any of our members 60 and older. This group is overseen by Ralph Jenkins and helped with by a group of members known as the Beautiful 60’s Boosters. Together they plan dinners and activities for our senior saints each month.
Benevolence
Mark Gooch and Al Denton, two of our deacons, oversee the Benevolence Program, which involves providing for those in need who come our way. They coordinate such efforts through our pantry, clothing room, school supplies, shelter, and special needs as they arise.
Education
John Henderson is our deacon in charge of the Education Program. His extensive responsibilities include ordering materials for all the classes, staffing all the classes, organizing an annual Teachers’ Banquet, and coordinating Vacation Bible School each summer.
Maintenance
Rusty Tidwell is our deacon in charge of the maintenance needs of the church building. These needs include heating, cooling, water systems, painting, lighting, and new furnishings.
Missions
Our Missions program encompasses points near and far. In our own backyard, Lori Whitaker heads up the ladies who rotate to visit the women’s jail in Charlotte. They provide a regular service to these female inmates each week. We also support the work of the Nashville Inner City Ministries, and we have recently contributed to the TV and radio program “In Search of the Lord’s Way”. Our foreign missions have included Italy, India, Russia, Albania, and Romania.
NHC
Morris Lannom is our deacon in charge of the weekly service held at the nursing home formerly known as Green Valley. His responsibilities include organizing the men to participate each week on a rotating basis as well as making sure that all the residents who want to attend are able to do so. This usually means going to several rooms to wheel residents to the meeting area and then returning them afterwards.
Robins Park
Robins Park is our meeting and recreation facility located across the highway from the Pomona Church of Christ. Mark Holland is our deacon in charge of coordinating events held at the park, keeping it clean inside and outside, and stocking it with necessary supplies for dinners and other events.
Visitation
Under the direction of one of our deacons, Sherman Cline, the Visitation Program allows members to meet in teams to make visits, phone calls, or send cards to the sick, bereaved, visitors, or those who need special encouragement.
Worship Program
Steve Leach is our deacon in charge of worship. His responsibilities include developing the roster for each service and then making sure each man designated to serve is where he is to be when he is to be there. This roster is published in our church bulletin the last Sunday of each month.
Youth Program
Jerry Massie is our deacon in charge of the youth program. Chris Hedge is our Youth Minister Intern. They plan all the youth activities including the weekly devotionals at Robins Park, youth trips, and Bible Bowl participation.
