Photographer Notes My wife and I recently purchased a digital camera. This was a good chance to try my hand at getting what I hoped would be spectacular fireworks shots. While the fireworks display was spectacular, I feel that the digital photos fail to do it justice. Before This is the truckload of pyrotechnics. Timing is Everything The most difficult part of photographing the fireworks was timing the camera to snap the picture when the firework explodes. Aside from guessing when the explosion will happen, the camera I used experienced a slight delay between when the photo button is pressed, and when the picture is actually taken. While this isn't a big deal when you're taking a picture of your family, it severely impacts your effectiveness when trying to capture exploding objects in the dark. Originally I tried using the manual settings to avoid the auto-focus and other overhead associated with the "auto" setting on the camera. Those pictures turned out black. So, after switching to the "auto" setting, I was able to capture what you see on this page. Brilliant Colors It seems like every year the fireworks are more colorful. This year was no exception. Some of the darker pictures below have especially vivid blues. Sky Gazing Looking at pictures of fireworks is a little like gazing at clouds. Sometimes you can see animal or plant shapes in the images. Several of the photos below have remarkable bird-like images.
