Great Decisions

Great Decisions Introduction: 1. Decisions are made every day. There are varying degrees of difficulty. 2. It is important that we make good decisions. I. Abraham decided to offer Isaac. A. Abraham was a man of faith. He made some bad decisions but he also made some good decisions. B. Reason for his right choice-faith (Heb. 11:17-19). C. Our faith should guide us. 1. Many are led by their thoughts, emotions, voice of others. 2. Our faith is taught of God (Jn. 20:31; Rom. 10:17; Lk. 8:12). It becomes our platform for life (Heb. 11; 2 Cor. 5:7; Phil. 1:20, 21). By it we receive (Rom. 5:2; Gal. 3:22). II. Joshua decided to serve the Lord. A. Joshua’s choice (Josh. 24:15). B. Choices of man: 1. Choices of man for their gods (nature, money Mt. 6:19-24, appetites, passions and pleasures (1 Jn. 2:15; Rom. 8:1-4, education, false religion Eph. 4:4-6, entertainment. 2. The priority of those choices (Mt. 12:30, 31; Ex. 20:3-5; Zeph. 2:3; Josh. 24:23). III. Peter decided to get off of the deck. A. Peter had humble beginnings. He made some poor choices. But he did make a very good one. B. Man may get down and his faith may be shipwrecked. Examples 1 Tim. 1:19, 20; 2 Tim. 1:15; Gal. 1:8, 9). Warnings (Heb. 10:26; 2 Tim. 4:3; 1 Tim. 4:1). Principles (Col. 1:21-22; 1 Jn. 2:1-2; 1:9). C. Reality-Our faith will be challenged. Will we wallow? God forgives (Ps. 130:3; Jer. 33:8; Heb. 8:12). IV. Christ decided to give his life for man. A. The Lord had choices (Jn. 10:17, 18). B. We must make the same decision. 1. Examples. There are what we would consider men that gave their lives for the gospel and those that were just the common man.. i.e.Paul, Peter, Rufus, Gaius, Erastus, etc. 2. We have been called to serve (Jn. 12:25; Gal. 6:14> Rom. 6:17).
