Personal Sacrifice
Introduction: 1. Is our service to God a sacrifice or a leftover? 2. 2 Sam. 24 and 1 Chron. 21 give us some food for thought. I. All that we have belongs to God. A. God the gift giver. He has given us all the things that we have and need. (Ps. 68:19; 103:2-5 ; Ecc. 5:19; 2 Cor. 9:8-10; 1 Tim. 6:17. B. Man is the receiver (1 Cor. 3:21). We have been entrusted with what we have (Ps. 24:1, 5; 115:16). We are to put what we have to use. II. Use whatever you have to the glory of God. A. God is deserving of our services (Ps. 18:3; Rev. 4:11). God is to be glorified. B. We have a certain responsibility with regards to our blessings (Mt. 25:14-30>1 Pet. 4:10; Eph. 3:21). C. Results: 1 Cor. 4:1, 2 III. Be careful for there is a price to pay. A. There is a price that we are to consider when we become a child of God (Lk. 14:26-34; Heb. 10:34). B. What some people try to give (service). 1. What is left over (Num. 18:29). 2. Out of abundance. It becomes just enough to appease their guilt (1 Sam. 15:17). 3. Some make no sacrifices at all. They do not want to go our of their way (Lk. 10:30-37). 4. Some are willing to pay the cost and render true service (2 Cor. 8:5; Mk. 12:42-44). C. God wants sacrifice and not selfish self centeredness (1 Jn. 3:17; Mt. 19:21; Phil. 2:4). Conclusion: 1. Be sure that your service to God is truly service and not just leftovers. Entered on 12/2/2007
