Live For Jesus
Introduction: 1. Men live by various philosophies today. 2. Which philosophy directs your life? 3. Rom. 12:1, 2. Our life for Jesus is characterized as being… I. A surrendered life (“present”). A. Preliminaries: Put oneself at the disposal of another. B. Point: 1. We are to be about the process of dieing to self (Col. 3:5; Gal. 2:20; 6:14; Eph. 4:22). 2. We are to turn ourselves over to God (Col. 3:10; Eph. 5:8; Ps. 34:18). II. A sacrificial life (“a living sacrifice”). A. Preliminaries: 1. You recall the sacrifices of the Old Testament. The types of sacrifices, the purpose of those sacrifices, and what was sacrificed. 2. No longer do we need these sacrifices (Heb. 9:12). B. Point: 1. Our sacrifice is ourselves. 2. We are all priest (1 Pet. 2:5, 9). 3. We are to offer up sacrifices (1 Pet. 2:5). Certain sacrifices we are to offer (Phil 2:17; 4:18; Heb. 13:15, 16). III. A serving life (“holy…..service”). A. Preliminaries: 1. We are called to serve. 2. Our service is characterized as being “holy” or seperated from sin and “acceptable” or well pleasing. B. Point: 1. We are God’s workmanship (Eph. 2:10). 2. We are made to serve (Gen. 2:15). 3. Our life is separated from sin and seeks to please God (1 Thes. 2:15; 4:1; Gen. 5:22; Jn. 8:29). IV. A seperated life (“be not conformed….mind”). A. Preliminaries: 1. Conformed-fashion or shape one thing like another. 2. World-age. 3. Transformed change into another form-an inward change that finds expression in character and conduct. B. Point: 1. A Christian is to live different from the world (1 Pet. 1:14; 2 Tim. 2:19). 2. We have become a new (2 Cor. 5:17). 3. Accomplished by the renewing of our minds. (2 Cor. 3:18; Phil 2:5). We do this by a contrite heart (2 Cor. 7:10-11). V. A shinning life (“prove….God”). A. Preliminaries: 1. Prove-test, prove with the idea of approving. 2. Good is absolute good, acceptable is well pleasing, and perfect is complete. B. Point: 1. Christians have been called to demonstrate the will of God. (Titus 1:16; 1 Peter 4:11; Mt. 5:14; 1 Tim. 4:12). Entered on 1/6/2008
