When God Speaks
When God Speaks Introduction: 1. The different avenues that men have to communicate with each other. 2. When is communication effective? I. Snapshots of when God spoke directly. (This are a few of many in the Bible) A. Noah (Gen 6: 12f.). B. Abraham (Gen. 12:1). C. Samuel (1 Sam. 3:1-14). D. Elijah (1 Kings 17). E. Jonah (Jonah 1:1) F. Jesus (Mt. 17; Jn. 12) II. Points to be made from the pictures. A. Listened to God. B. Understood it was from God. C. Responded to what they were told. D. Were reassured in their actions. III. Application for us today. A. God speaks to us today. He speaks by his word (1 Cor. 2:9-16; 2 Pet. 1:21; 1 Thes. 2:13; Heb. 1:1, 2). B. We are to listen to God. We have been admonished (Ps. 78:1; Mt. 10:27; Rev. 2, 3). The Lord’s admonition (Acts 2:22) with an eye of following (Acts 28:26-28). C. Be open to his directions. Many hear without listening. Some are not moved (Heb. 3:15-19). We should allow our heart to be touched (2 Cor. 3:18; Acts. 16:14; 2:37). Our lives are to be affected (2 Kings. 22:19; 1 Tim. 4:16). Even if we must change our way are we to be led by the Lord’s directions (1 Cor. 15:9; 1 Pet. 2:25; Acts 17:30; Joel 2:12, 13). D. Follow the directions as they are given (Heb. 2:1-3). We need the attitude of Ezra (Ezra 7:10). Our actions need to be like some in Rome (Rom. 6:17). We must allow God to direct our step (Jer. 10:23; Ps. 119:2-5). E. Rely upon God. He will do what he has promised (Ps. 22:4; 37:5, 7; Isa. 34:16). Be patient (Ps. 62:5). Entered on 1/20/2008
