Some Tough Questions To Answer
Introduction: 1. Ever been put on the spot? Ever been asked a tough question? 2. Some questions are tough because of the nature of the question, or the answer that is to be given, or the consequences that are involved. 3. Today we want to look at three tough questions for us. I. Am I in love with God? A. Myself: 1. Am I really in love with God? Yes I have been commanded to love God but am I in love with him? Note that this implies listening and hanging on every word (2 Jn. 6; Ps. 31:23), following his every word (1 Jn. 5:3; Jn. 14:21). Is Christianity a job or a passion? B. God is in love with you. 1. Statement of fact (1 Jn. 4:8 ). 2. God’s love is a. Fact (Ps. 146:8), b. Exemplified-He gave his son (Rom. 5:8; 1 Jn. 4:9), gives us a position (1 Jn. 3:1, 2), offers us daily blessings (Lam. 3:22) while he is holding me (1 Pet. 3:12, 13; 2 Thes 3:3). We are truly offered every spiritual blessing (Ps. 103:2-5; Eph. 3:16-19). C. Thus I should (Jude 21). II. Do I trust God? A. Myself: 1. Do I trust him? 2. How far do I trust him? 3. To what extent do I trust God? B. God tells us to lean on him. 1. Commanded (Prov. 3:5, 6; Ps. 4:5; Mk. 11:22) 2. Why lean on God (rational)? a. God does not lie (Heb. 6:18; Titus 1:2). b. His will is immutible (Ja. 1:17). c. His word is gold (Heb. 6:17). d. He never forsakes men (Dt. 31:6). C. Thus, my faith says (Ps. 27:8; Ruth 1:16). III. Do you feel confident in your salvation? A. Myself: How positive am I of where I stand? Can I prove the Bible? Do I rest confidently in what I am? B. God says we can. 1. If I believe (1 Jn. 5:13; Jn. 8:24). I am to totally surrender (Jn. 12:42, 43; 1 Jn. 2:17). 2. Knowing then (1 Jn. 5:11, 12> Gal. 3:26, 27). 3. I can have blessed assurance. 4. I am free from tragedy of sin (Rom. 6:23), I have escaped the wrath of God (Jn. 3:36), forgiveness is mine, eternity with God and the redeemed of all ages is a promised reality (1 The. 4:13-17).
