Thc Christian's Hope

Introduction: 1. It is all we have have-hope. 2. Is it worth it? 3. 1 Peter 1:3-12. I. It is a living hope (verse 3). A. A living hope not a dead hope. We have a living God (Mt. 16:16), a living Savior (Jn. 6:51), and a living word of God (1 Pet. 1:23). We are living priesthood (1 Pet. 2:5). B. Hope is anticipation (2 Cor. 8:5; Phil 1:20) and expectation (Prov. 10:28). >Rom. 8:24. C. Reason it is a lively hope. The resurrection of Jesus. Mt. 28:6 >1 Cor. 15:17-19; 54-57. II. Extends beyond this life (verse 4). A. Death is hated and despised. B. A promised inheritance (Rom. 8:17>Mt. 5:12; 6:19; Jn. 14:1; 2 Tim. 4:7, 8; Phil. 3:14). C. An inheritance that is incorruptible (imperishable) (1 Cor. 15:51-54). D. An inheritance that is undefiled (unstained, no flaw). No sorrows, temptation, sin, disappointment, challenges, despair (Rev. 21:4; Phil 3:7-9). E. An inheritance that will not fade away (1 Cor. 9:24-24; 1 Pet. 5:4). F. Reserved by Jesus (2 Tim. 1:10; 1 Jn. 5:20). III. Stands upon a sure/solid foundation (verse 5). A. Christians are kept-guarded (2 Tim. 4:18; Jude 1, 24) by God’s power-the word of God (Rom. 10:17; Jn. 1:12). What a security system! B. Upon (basis) of faith (Heb. 10:23; 1 Tim. 4:10). IV. Helps us to rejoice even in the midst of sorrows (verse 6). A. Various trials of life. 1. We have many. 2. They are not without benefit. 3. Even though they bring great pain. B. Our hope helps us cope. 1. It gives us strength (Lk. 24:13-35; Heb. 6:18). 2. It gives us stability (Heb. 6:19). Conclusion: Verse 9 says we are guaranteed deliverance.
