Characteristics Of A Reconciled Man
Introduction: 1. What a blessing to be a child of God. What blessings come because we are God’s children! 2. What does a child of God posses? What is he and what does he do? 3. Eph. 2:1-10. I. Reformed sinner (verses 1-3). A. Before we become God’s child. Note the past tense. 1. We were said to walk according to the path of Satan. We were by nature or habit the children of Satan and thus practiced the way of sin (1 Jn 2:16; Col 1:13, 14). B. Results. We were dead in sin (Rom. 6:23; Isa. 59:2). Described (Eph. 2:12). C. In redemption look what happens (Rom. 6:16; Acts 26:18). We no longer practice sin (Titus 2:12; 2 Tim. 2:22). II. Loved by God (verses 4-5a, 7). A. God is love (1 Jn. 4:8; 2 Cor. 13:11). God loves mankind (Ps. 146:8). Man’s love may be narrow (Mt. 5:46) but not God’s (Jn. 3:16). God’s love is manifested (Rom. 5:8; Heb 2:9). B. The result of his love-mercy. C. We do not have to wonder about God’s love. III. In union with Christ (verses 5-6). A. Poverty of sin (Eph. 2:13; Isa. 59:1, 2; Ps. 51:1, 2; Ja. 4:4). B. The reconciled man is placed in union with Christ. Note the word “together”. This is accomplished (Rom. 6:1-6; Col. 3:1; Gal. 3:27). C. What this union does for us. (Eph. 1:3; 2 Tim. 2:10). IV. Saved by grace through faith (verses 8-10). A. God of all grace (1 Pet. 5:10). B. His grace is amazing (Ps. 86:15; 2 Thes. 1:12 He does save by his grace (Rom. 3:24; Tit. 2:11, 12). But not by grace alone. C. Accompanied by faith (Rom. 5:1; Jn. 3:16, 36). Not by faith alone. Salvation is a gift. Entered on 8/17/2008
