Have You Been In Worship?

Introduction:
1. Worship is an instinctive human need.
2. Worship opens the heart, purges the imagination, quickens the conscience and devotes the will.
3. Worship that is true.

I. True worship glorifies God.
A. God is the object of our worship (Jn. 4:24; Mt. 4:9, 10).
B. Worship is about magnifying the presence of God (Ps. 69:34; Isa. 43:21; 1 Pet. 2:9; Ps. 95:6, 7).
C. Worship becomes our response to God:
   1. Who he is (Acts 17)—creator (v. 24), Lord (v. 24), Father (v. 29), benefactor (v. 25, 28).
   2. What he has done-delivered (Ps. 86:5), blesses us (Ja. 1:17), given us the truth (Isa. 25:1), and answered prayers (Ps. 118:21).
D. Worship is a time of thanksgiving for what God has done and adoration for who he is. It is a human response and not a spectator’s sport.

II. Right worship purifies the worshiper.
A. Worship is what we do.
B. It affects what we do/feel/believe. It ...
   1. Enlarges my horizons of who I am (2 Sam. 22:31).
   2. Eclipses my fears (Ps. 27:1).
   3. Enhances my daily life and work (Ps. 14:1-3).
C. Worship should then
   1. Renew.
   2. Reenergize.
   3. Retool.
   4. And cause me to recommit my life.
D. When we worship we come as we are needing God’s help.

III. Acceptable worship builds the church.
A. Worship was important to the early church (Acts 2:42). It grew as individuals recommitted themselves at the worship service.
B. Truly worship (1 Cor. 14:26c.). When we worship we lift each other up by our…
   1. Singing (Col. 3:16).
   2. Lord’s Supper (1 Cor. 10:16, 17; 11:33).
   3. Prayer (Ja. 5:13-16).
   4. Giving (Acts 2:42; 1 Cor. 16:2).

Conclusion:
1. Our worship affects us and others (1 Cor. 14:23-25).
2. Don’t just attend-worship.
