Abortion

Introduction:
1. A most controversial subject.
2. In 1973 the Supreme Court decision in the case of Roe vs Wade said that abortion on demand was acceptable within the United States.
3. What does the Bible say?

I. This is a question that must be decided in the right court.
A. Defined as the termination of a pregnancy before term. To purposefully end a pregnancy before a child is born. (Not talking about miscarriages or premature births.)
B. Is it right?
   1. Roe vs Wade, partial birth abortions and Freedom of Choice Act.
   2. God’s court (1 Pet. 4:11).
C. Estimates are that 1 in 3 conceptions are aborted. There are 1.3 million abortions preformed in the U.S. each year. In the state of Tennessee 2 years ago there were 19,010. It is said to be the most common surgical procedure preformed.
D. Note what God said (Jer. 1:5).

II. Principles from God’s word.
A. Life is a gift from God 1. Acts 17:25. 2. Gen. 1:26. 3. Man is forbidden Gen 9:6.
B. Christ taught the value of human life
   1. In New Testament times life was cheap. Gladiator games, slavery, fathers controlled the fate of infants.
   2. Jesus taught (Jn. 3:16 and Mk. 16:15).
C. There is no distinction in scripture between babes in and outside of the womb (Lk. 1:41, 44>2 Tim. 3:15; Jer. 1:5; Ps. 139:13).
D. The Bible teaches that we are not to kill (Ex. 20:13; Rom. 13:9; Prov. 6:19).

III. What can we Christians do?
A. Speak for the rights of the fetus.
B. Be aware of the power of the ballot box.
C. Teach children the sanctity of life and personal responsibility.
D. Have compassion for and provide help for unwed mothers and married mothers who do not want their child (Eph. 5:2; Rom. 12:9).
E. Be compassionate and forgiving to those who have had an abortion (Eph. 4:32).

Conclusion:
Jesus began as a little baby.
