What A Friend We Have In Jesus
Introduction: 1. Terrible to be alone. 2. We need friends. 3. Christians have the ultimate in friends-Jesus Christ. I. A friend to all. A. Jesus friendship on earth. He was truly by and for all people-rich, poor, lane, homeless, hungry, worker, outcast, political zealot, thief, murder, woman at well, etc. He was even accused (Mt. 9:11; Lk. 7:36-48). B. We have our own standards. We are to love everyone (Ja. 2:8; 1 Tim. 1:5). We do not look on the surface of people. II. A friend on whom I can depend. A. Jesus. 1. Run to my aid in time of adversity. (Heb. 2:17-18; Heb. 4:15; Prov. 17:17). 2. Tells me the truth (Jn. 15:15; Prov. 27:6; Mt. 7:12). 3. Loves me all of the time (Mt. 11:28f.; Rom. 8:35f.; 15:3). 4. Keeps his word (Mt. 5:17-18; Lk. 19:10. Even when it meant his life (Mt. 26:53, 54; 27:45). B. Me: 2 Sam. 15:21; Ruth and Naomi. III. Did and does all he can foe me. A. Jesus’ loyalty was above all others. His life was one of service (Phil. 2:6,7; Jn. 13:8-17). He served God (Heb. 5:8) and man (2 Cor. 8:9). 1. Pre-incarnate (Jn. 3:13). 2. Became man (Rom. 8:3). 3. His journey on earth-people he met, places he went, principles he preached. 4. But all of that came to an end one Friday. 5. Resurrection of the Lord (1 Cor. 15:3; Rev. 1:5). 6. Now he is our mediator (1 Tim. 1:5) and advocate (Rom. 8:24). B. Do what can fro friends (1 Sam. 19:2; 2 Cor. 4:5). Conclusion: 1. How can I be a friend to Jesus? 2.
