Homosexuality And The Bible

Introduction:
1. It is growing in acceptance and in popularity.
2. A serious and frank discussion is needed because a) it is a moral subject and b) society has begun to accept the lifestyle.

I. Understanding homosexuality.
A. What is it? By definition it is the sexual manifestations toward individuals of the same sex.
B. The numbers. The Kinsey report in the 1940’s said that 10% of the population is homosexual. This became an accepted figure. However, no one has been able to duplicate the same number and the subjects of his study would also tend to skew the numbers. Most feel that around 5% of the population in the U.S. is gay. However, there are many sympathizers.
C. The difficulty of today.
1. Militant activist.
2. Religious freedoms are challenged. Tax money and what it is used to fund.
D. How does one become a homosexual?

II. The Bible.
A. Genesis 2:18-25.
B. Genesis 19:5>18:20 (2 Pet. 2:6-8; Ezek. 16:49; Jude 7).
C. Lev. 18:20 (22)-25.
D. Rom. 1:24-32.
E. 1 Cor. 6:9-10>14:37.
F. Others to study (Gen. 18; Lev. 20:13; Dt. 23:27; 1 Kings 14:23-34; Mt. 19:4-6, 11:23, 24; 1 Tim. 1:9, 10).

III. The church’s reaction.
A. We must oppose the sin and those that promote it. While the charge against us may be that we are homophobic or politically incorrect we must stand our ground (Josh. 1:9; 1 Cor. 16:13; 2 Tim. 4:1-4). Now we must have compassion (1 Per. 3:4; 2 Tim. 2:24, 25).
B. Love the person not the sin (Mt. 5:44; 22:39; 1 Jn. 4:7, 8).
C. Seek repentance for their repentance (1 Cor. 6:11).

Conclusion:
We learn much from the story in John 4. While she was not a homosexual the way Jesus spoke to this lady tells us much.
