Introduction: 1. Luke 11:34. 2. The TV is a noise maker, partner, comfort, entertainer, baby sitter, etc. 3. Be careful with your television. I. The power of the media. A. Power of the television. 1. Type of shows sports, dramas, reality, documentary, variety, self help, news, food, game shows, children’s, etc. 2. Can do for us-see the world, explore, educate, open the world up, enlighten, encourage, discourage, etc. B. The place TV holds in our society: 98% of the homes in America own one set and 88.7% own two sets. The television is on an average of 7 hours and 12 minutes each day in the average home. C. People behind the scenes. Those who come up with the shows we watch were surveyed years ago: 8% attend church or synagogue weekly, 86% seldom or never attend, 90% are pro abortion/mother’s rights, 75% think that homosexuality is o.k., 54% believe that adultery is fine, and 15% believe that extramarital affairs are immoral. II. Medias massacre of morals. Note: Much of what is on television is good, wholesome, educational, and entertaining. However, there is much that needs to be filter and really does not need to be on TV. A. Pictures of what is seen-violence, sex, cheap love, etc. B. Some of the morals that are attacked by television: (Purity Ja.. 4:8). 1. Bible knowledge. 2. Speech (Eph. 4:29; Ja. 3:9-11). 3. Love (Mt. 19:4-9; Eph. 5:25, 28). 4. Violence (Mt. 5:44). We need (Prov. 4:23; Jer. 6:16). III. Management of the media in your home. A. Power of the remote. B. Restrict amount of television, shows, channels. C. Retrain- you control the television.
