Mothers
Introduction: 1. We owe much to our Mothers. 2. The importance of mothers not only to our lives but also to society. 3. Characteristics of a godly mother. I. Ladies of character. A. Character is moral excellence. It is what you are when the lights are off. B. A loss of character in the United States. Examples of moral laxity today lying, justification, abortion on demand, stealing, etc. C. Mothers are ladies in every sense of the word: 1. Not just in appearance. 2. Nor are they always “politically correct” D. Mothers lead good lives. Their profession of faith is second only to their life of faith (Mt. 6:33; Col. 3:12, 13). E. Ladies of character (Prov. 4:23> 1 Pet. 2:12; 3:16). They are models of consistency. II. Teachers of the truth. A. Mothers teach us much. B. Mothers are our spiritual teachers (Dt. 4:9; 6:7; Prov. 22:6). They are teachers of the truth (2 Tim. 1:15vs. 2 Chron. 22:3). C. While concerned about the here and now they are teachers that are concerned about our eternal welfare (Prov. 31:30; Lk. 1:46). III. Provides for her family. Not the sole bread winner or provider. A. The working mother. B. She provides for her family (Prov. 31:13, 19, 15, 24, 14). Conclusion: 1. Our mothers are precious to us. 2. Thank you mothers for what you mean to us. Entered on 5/10/2009
