My Father's House
Introduction: 1. There was a young man who felt his oats and decided to go sow them. 2. After he got in a bad way he remembered his father’s house. 3. What he remembered about his father’s house tells us a lot about what father’s should do in their homes today. I. Remembered his father’s house. A. The event. When he was down his thoughts turned to home. B. Application. The home should be a place that when you think back you have fond memories/place of refuge. C. Just like God (Ps. 9:9; 142:5). II. Remembered his father’s house had adequate provisions. A. The event. “Bread enough and to spare.” B. Application. Fathers are to provide for family (2 Cor. 12:14; 1 Tim. 5:8; 2 Thes. 3:10). C. Just like God. He provides-Israel in the wilderness (Lk. 22:35; 2 Cor. 9:8). III. Remembered a father who was approachable. A. The event. “I will go home and say to my father”. B. Application. Men need to be tender yet tough. Not tyrants. (1 Thes. 2:11; Eph. 6:4; Prov. 1:8; Isa. 38:19; Prov. 29:15). C. Just like God who is approachable (Ex. 6:5; 1 Pet. 3:12; 2 Chron 15:2; Ps. 65:2). IV. Remembered and believed his father would give him a second chance. A. The event. Make me as one of thy servants. B. Application. Everyone makes mistakes and needs forgiveness. C. Just like God we need to be willing to forgive (Ps. 130:4; 103:12; Isa. 43:25; 1 Pet. 1:22). V. Remembered and believed his father had standards. A. The event. “Sinned against thee.” B. Application. We need fathers who believe in truth. C. Just like God who has a standard (Ps. 119:89; 1 Cor. 11:2; 2 Tim. 1:13). Entered on 6/21/2009
