Introduction:
1. You can prevent many things in your life.
2. Preventative maintenance and measures.
3. You most assuredly can prevent sin in your life.
I. Remember to whom we belong.
A. Remember who you are and what you are.
B. Look what we are (1 Jn. 3:1-3>Jn. 1:12). We are this by virtue of: 1. Jesus 1 Cor. 6:20; 2 Tim. 1:9). 2. Spiritual birth (Jn. 3:1-10).
C. Remembering to whom we belong: 1. We are to develop an intimate relationship (1 Jn. 2:3). 2. Blessings that are found in that relationship peace (Col. 1:20, 21), redemption (1 Pet. 1:18, 19); perpetual cleansing (Rev. 12:11).
II. Strive to practice righteousness everyday.
A. Christian life is lived on purpose and not by accident.
B. Challenge (1 Jn. 2:29; 3:10; 1 Tim. 6:11). Our possible choices (1 Jn. 3:7, 8).
C. Means supplied (2 Tim. 3:16, 17; Eph. 6:11-17; 2 Pet. 1:3).
III. Work to keep ourselves for God.
A. As a bride keeps herself for her bridegroom.
B. The Christian’s challenge (1 Jn. 5:18; Jude 21). Keep yourself pure (1 Tim. 5:22; Ja. 1:27).
C. We are to walk as: Children of the light (Eph. 5:8-14), different from the world (Eph. 4:17-32), according to the pattern (Phil. 3:17-21), in the light (1 Jn. 1:5f.).
IV. Diligently endeavor to do God’s will.
A. God called us to follow His will.
B. Knowing (1 Jn. 3:9; Ps. 119:9, 11; 1 Thes. 4:3).
C. Challenge is to keep the commands of God perpetually (1 Jn. 5:2-4). We accomplish this by dedicating ourselves to Him-resisting temptation (Ja. 4:7), drawing close to Him (Ja.4:8) and walking with Him (1 Jn. 1:7).
Conclusion:
1. We can overcome Satan!
