What To Do With God's Word
Introduction: 1. The Bible is God’s revealed will. 2. What do you do with this will 3. James 1:19-27. I. Receive the word (19-21). The word taught is also to be received. We receive it by being… A. Swift to hear. An eagerness to learn. (Prov. 17:28). We learn by listening (Ps. 119:11; 2 Tim. 2:15; Ps. 1:2). B. Slow to speak. The convert is not to be quick to get up and start speaking (Prov. 10:19; 17:27). Be careful when you start to speak for God. C. Slow to anger. A natural reaction. (Gal. 4:16; Eph. 4:26). Some stop coming to church. They get mad at what they hear. D. We are able to do this according to verse 21. We must: 1. Get rid of (Eph. 4:22-24; Col. 3:8-10) filthiness-moral uncleanness, superfluity- over abundance. 2. We are to plant the word of God in our hearts (1 Thes. 2:13; Rom. 1:16; Acts 17:11). II. Put the word of God into practice (verses 22-25). A. There is the hearer only. He hears and goes his way but does nothing about what he heard. B. The doer, however, beholds himself and transforms himself (2 Cor. 3:18; Josh. 1:8; Mat. 7:21; Lk. 6:46-49). He continues in what he knows to be right. III. Live the word (verses 26, 27). A. Speech. A reliable indicator (Mt. 12:34, 37). B. Sharing. Visit or care for (Mt. 25:35, 36). C. Separation from sin (1 Pet. 1:17-19), strive to (Rom. 12:2; 2 Cor. 6:17). We are to have an individually pure life (Jn. 17:11-16; Ja. 4:4). Conclusion: 1. Put the word of God into your heart and into your life. Entered on 9/13/2009
