Be Patient
Introduction: 1. It is hard to be patient. 2. Life does not always go as smoothly and as quickly as we desire. 3. James 5:7-12. I. In your work (verses 7, 8). A. Text. 1. In view of the second coming we are to be patient (1 Thes. 4:13f.; 5:2). 2. Remember the farmer. 3. Don’t stop. B. We are admonished to be alert (1 Thes. 5:2-6; Mt. 24:36-51). Live in all holiness (1 Thes. 3:13) and abide in Christ (1 Jn. 2:28). C. There are potholes in life. Temptation comes our way and giving up, which seems to be such a wonderful option, is not an option at all (Gal. 6:9; 1 Cor. 15:58). D. We accomplish this by establishing our hearts. The harvest is coming (Rom. 16:25; Col. 1:11). II. With each other (verse 9). A. Text. Grudge, grieve, complain, fretful. (Don’t keep on). B. The attitude of the Christian>love (Jn. 13:34). We are not to attack our family members. We need each other (Heb. 13:1; 1 Cor. 13:5, 7; Col. 2:2; 1 Thes. 3:12). C. With an eye of being judged by the Lord (Eph. 5:2). III. In the midst of trials (verses 10, 11). A. Text. Why suffer for good. Remember the prophets and Job. B. Life is not easy (2 Tim. 3:12). C. We are called upon to endure (Mt 5:10-12) D. The Lord is compassionate (Ps. 103:13). E. Truly Psalm 30:5 is to be remembered. IV. With your speech (verse 12). A. Text. “But especially”. Don’t swear-make an oath using the Lord’s name in vain. A violation of the 3rd commandment. B. Our speech is to be pure. C. It is to be from the heart (Mt. 12:34-37). D. Be honest and with great candor but do not take the name of the Lord in vain. Conclusion: Be patient therefore brethren unto the coming of the Lord. Entered on 12/6/2009
