Be Patient

Introduction:
1.     It is hard to be patient.
2.     Life does not always go as smoothly and as quickly as we desire.
3.     James 5:7-12.

I.      In your work (verses 7, 8).
A.      Text. 1. In view of the second coming we are to be patient (1 Thes. 4:13f.; 5:2). 2. Remember the farmer. 3. Don’t stop.
B.     We are admonished to be alert (1 Thes. 5:2-6; Mt. 24:36-51). Live in all holiness (1 Thes. 3:13) and abide in Christ (1 Jn. 2:28).
C.     There are potholes in life. Temptation comes our way and giving up, which seems to be such a wonderful option, is not an option at all (Gal. 6:9; 1 Cor. 15:58).
D.     We accomplish this by establishing our hearts. The harvest is coming (Rom. 16:25; Col. 1:11).

II.      With each other (verse 9).
A.      Text. Grudge, grieve, complain, fretful. (Don’t keep on).
B.     The attitude of the Christian>love (Jn. 13:34). We are not to attack our family members. We need each other (Heb. 13:1; 1 Cor. 13:5, 7; Col. 2:2; 1 Thes. 3:12).
C.     With an eye of being judged by the Lord (Eph. 5:2).

III.      In the midst of trials (verses 10, 11).
A.      Text. Why suffer for good. Remember the prophets and Job.
B.     Life is not easy (2 Tim. 3:12).
C.     We are called upon to endure (Mt 5:10-12)
D.     The Lord is compassionate (Ps. 103:13).
E.     Truly Psalm 30:5 is to be remembered.

IV.      With your speech (verse 12).
A.      Text. “But especially”. Don’t swear-make an oath using the Lord’s name in vain. A violation of the 3rd commandment.
B.     Our speech is to be pure.
C.     It is to be from the heart (Mt. 12:34-37).
D.     Be honest and with great candor but do not take the name of the Lord in vain.

Conclusion:
Be patient therefore brethren unto the coming of the Lord.
