Revive Us Again
Introduction: 1. A new year is upon us. 2. We need to move forward. Do we need a revival? 3. 2 Chron. 29. I. Getting rid of the old (verses 3-6). A. Get rid of the rubbish. The neglect of the temple. B. When one comes back to God he revives his tired old house. C. A little house cleaning (Eph. 4:22; 5:11; Rev. 18:4). Cut off all old ties (Col. 3:5-9). D. Fresh start vs. status quo. II. Recovery from state of neglect or indifference (verses 6b-7). A. They had been unfaithful, practice evil, turned their face from God, shut the doors to the temple, put out the lamps, and not performed proper services to God. B. Neglect happens (Ja. 4:17; Rev. 3:14-16, 19). We grow cold and indifferent. Passions fade (Eph. 4:18, 19). C. Need (Jer. 20:9; Ezek. 22:30). How? (2 Pet. 1:8, 10, 12). III. Demands of a renewed interest (verses 15-17). A. Gather the items that are to be in the temple, sanctify them, and put it back in order. B. God does not want second place (Mt. 6:33). He is to be the center of our life (Phil. 4:13). Remember Ex. 20:4, 5. C. We accomplish this by allowing our desires to be stirred (Rom. 10:1, 2; 2 Cor. 8:12); priorities established (2 Cor. 4:18; 5:1) IV. Turn back to God (verses 15, 35). A. Back to God (Col. 3:1; Eph. 4:24; Col. 3:10). B. We are to fill our hearts and lives with God as we act in harmony with His nature. C. Remember (2 Chron. 7:14).
