We Have A Savior
Introduction: 1. What is man’s greatest need? 2. What is God’s greatest offer? 3. We receive such because of God’s atonement for man. I. The Prince of Peace. A. Proclaimed (Isa. 9:6; Lk. 2:14, 15; Eph. 2:13-14). B. Man at war with God-sin (Isa. 59:1, 2; Ja. 4:4). God will depart (Jud 16:20; Ps. 51). C. Christ is our payment (Mk. 10:45). Ransom-redeem one through the payment of a price (Titus 2:14; Rom. 5:8-10). The end result is (1 Jn. 1:3; Col. 1:20). II. Propitiation. A. Proclaimed (1 Jn. 2:2; 4:10). B. Pronounced- means by which our sins are forgiven. C. Problem for some: God is angry with man because he has a bad temper. God’s anger is because of his righteous character (Hab. 1:13; Ja. 1:13). God does not rush to a hasty judgment. D. God provides the sacrifice (Rom. 3:26). E. Jesus thus, leaving the glory of heaven came to the wicked world (1 Jn. 4:9-10; 2 Cor. 8:9). He forfeited His life for man (Jn. 15:13-14). III. The substitutionary atonement. A. In the Old Testament system of sacrifices (burnt, cereal, peace, sin, and guilt all were to atone. B. Christ is our lamb today (Jn. 1:36). C. So Christ had our sins put upon his shoulders so that we might be able to enjoy the forgiveness of sins (Isa. 53:6, 10; Heb. 10:1; Jn. 1:29; 2 Cor. 5:21; Rom. 3:25; 5:9; Heb. 9). IV. The victor. A. The battleground (Eph. 6:12). B. Christ is the victor over sin and Satan ( 2 Tim 1:10; 1 Cor. 15:56). C. With Christ we are conquerors (Rev. 12:14). Conclusion: 1.
