Misconceptions of God's Grace

Misconceptions of God’s Grace

Introduction:
1.     God’s grace is his unmerited favor.
2.     It is one of the Lord’s great doctrines.
3.     Yet, folks have abused and misapplied the scriptures on this great subject to teach what the Bible doe not say on this magnificent subject. Let us look at some idea.

I.      It covers nothing.
A.      The thought of some. They live in constant fear.
B.     Not so, listen to Col. 1:21-23; 1 Jn. 1:7-9; 2:24. God’s grace reaches out to the sinner (Col. 2:13; Ps. 85:12).
C.     Where did the misunderstanding come from? 1. The Bible teaches that once one is saved they are not always saved (Gal. 5:4; Rev. 3:14; Ja. 5:19, 20). 2. A misunderstanding arises when we do not take the whole Bible into study.
D.     One must note that the Bible teaches: 1. The difference between falling and falling away. 2. What is it. The Christian tries but he stumbles-he is not perfect and thus he falls. He only falls away when his rebellion takes him away from God and he is not trying to live the life God would have him to live (Rom. 3:23; 1 Jn. 1:8-10; 2 Tim. 4:7; Heb. 6:4-6; Jude 24; Rom. 6:12).

II.      It covers everything.
A.      The thought of some. We can’t do anything wrong. I can not do anything that takes me away from God’s grace.
B.     Listen up (Rom. 6:1f.).
C.     Where does such a teaching come from?
D.     God’s grace requires: 1. Discipline (Tit. 2:12; Rom. 6:6; Gal. 6:14). 2. Obedience (Rom. 1:5; 8:24; 1 Jn. 3:24; Lk. 6:46).
E.     The Christian life is to be lived (Eph. 4:1; 2 Jn. 6).

III.      God’s grace can not forgive me.
A.      The thought of some.
B.     Listen up-God can and will forgive you.
C.     God’s grace is like his love it has breadth and depth. Think about the apostle Paul- 1. His background-where he came from and what he practiced. 2. Look at what he became? 3. Why?
D.     God’s expectation.

Conclusion:
God’s grace reaches in all directions. Let us not abuse it but appreciate and enjoy it.
