Giving One's Life To God
Introduction: 1. Have you ever had any problems in your life? Do you ever feel like you are on a deserted island? 2. Give your life to God. 3. Psalm 31. (David) I. He affirmed his confidence in God (verses 1-3>5). A. We should have a strong confidence in God (2 Tim. 1:12). But it is often shaken by false teachers, pains/suffering, evil men, evil lusts, etc. B. Men trust in money, ability, smarts, etc. to get self out of problems. C. David saw God as 1. Protection (Ps. 18:1, 2; 3:8; 4:8). 2. Faithful friend (Josh. 1:5, 9; 1 Chron. 28:20). 3. Guide (Jer. 3:4; 2 Sam. 22:29>Ps. 73:24). D. David trusted (Ps. 28:7) and had confidence in God (1 Tim. 4:10; Isa. 26:4). II. He submitted his circumstances to God’s sovereign control (verses 9:13>15). A. The dire straits that David was in. He wanted God to carry his burden for him. B. God is in control (Heb. 1:3; Isa. 46:10; Neh. 9:6). He has great power (Eph. 3:20; Mt. 19:26). C. We commit the care of self to God (Ps. 55:22; 1 Pet. 4:19; 2:23; 5:7). III. He surrendered himself to God’s lovingkindness (verse 16). A. We wanted God’s face and presence (Dt. 6:25). We are assured (Mal. 1:2; 2 Thes 2:16; Ps. 48:9). B. Safest place to be is in God’s hands (Rom. 8:31f.; Ps. 46:1; 61:3; 121:7). C. Look at some examples Israel in the wilderness, Daniel, Jonah, Paul. Conclusion: 1.
