Neighbor Day
Introduction: 1. Welcome everyone today. 2. Worship is defined as reverence to, an act of homage (Ps. 96:7, 8). I. Worship through song. A. You may have noticed that we do not use instrumental music. 1. It is not because we can’t afford any instruments or do not think that they make beautiful music, or that they will not fit in our building, etc. 2. Rather, when we a) Look at the subject historically they sang in the worship assembly. b) Note Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16; Heb. 13:15; 1 Cor. 14:15). B. We believe that God desires vocal music. He also specified vocal music. If this is worship to Him, and it is, then we should give Him His request. II. Worship through prayer. A. Prayer is our opportunity to talk with God. We take our problems, cares, concerns, needs, problems, mistakes, downfalls, etc. to God. B. When the New Testament church got together they prayed. 1. Acts 2:41-42. 2. Acts 6:3, 4. 3. Acts 12: 5. 4. Acts 20:36. 5. Acts 21:5. 6. Heb. 4:16. III. Worship Through the Lord’s Supper. A. It was instituted by Jesus. It contains two emblems and is to be taken in a worthy manner. B. The early church partook of the Lord’s Supper on the first day of every week (Acts 20:7). IV. Worship through the contribution. A. The Lord commands us to give of our means in accordance to how we have prospered (1 Cor. 16:1, 2). We are to do so with a cheerful heart (2 Cor. 8). B. The collection if for the work of the local church. The money is used to carry forth the spreading of the gospel both locally and abroad. It is also used to help those in need. V. Worship through a study of the word of God. A. The Bible is the source for the direction that we have in and with our lives (2 Tim. 3:16, 17). The Bible is complete (2 Pet. 1:3). It is authoritative. It is God’s pattern for our lives (1 Tim. 4:16). B. We are trying to let the Bible be the means that directs our lives. We preach the Bible and the Bible alone (2 Tim. 4:2). C. The Message for today is the story of Christ (Acts 2:22f.). Peter spoke of Jesus 1. Confirmation (verse 22). 2. His crucifixion (verse 23). 3. His resurrection (verses 24-32). 4. His exaltation (verse 33). 5. His ascension (verses 34-35). 6. God made Jesus Lord and Christ. Conclusion: 1. To God be the glory. May we ever glorify Him. Because of His Grace! Entered on 3/21/2010
