Introduction:
1. We sing about it. We read about it. We long for it. We desire it.
2. It is where we all want to go but often give it little thought.
3. Note some great points of emphasis on the subject of heaven.
I. Picture/Portrait of heaven (Rev. 21).
A. Verse 2. It is pictured as a bride. Have you ever given a great deal of thought to the picture of a bride? I am sure you have but think about it in terms of this picture. It is prepared and beautiful (Mt. 25:34; Jn. 14:1-3).
B. Verses 3-5. It is the tabernacle of God. This shows the presence of God (Ex. 35:10-25.
C. Verses 9-27. It is called a great city. Described as a city with streets of gold, walls, that glow, gates that come at the cost of irritation, where God is over and His glory resides.
II. People of heaven.
A. The Godhead (Father Mt. 5:45; 6:9; Son Jn. 6:38; Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 2:11-13).
B. Great Bible heroes. Patriarchal (Mt. 18:11; Heb. 11:4-22. Mosaic Age-Moses, Gideon, Samson, Japhteth, Daniel. Christian age-John, Peter, Paul.
C. Precious Children (2 Sam. 12:23; Ps. 23:6)
D. Saved of all time (Rev. 21:24).
III. Permanence of heaven.
A. Our thoughts of permanence. Nothing does last.
B. Heaven is eternal (Heb. 13:14; 1 Pet. 1:4).
C. The inhabitants have the opportunity to have certain things (Rev. 22:1; 2).
IV. Perfection of heaven.
A. Revelation 21:16. Everything will be perfect.
B. No corruption (1 Cor. 15:51-53). No more wrinkles, scars, disabilities, aging, aches, pains, injuries, illnesses, death.
C. What is and is not there (Rev. 21:4, 27).
Conclusion:
Heaven is not a lot like Dixie but aren’t you glad!!!!! In heaven there are no cemeteries, drug stores, hospitals, nursing homes, jails, funeral homes, security lights, bars, and beer joints.
