Introduction: 1. Give all the glory to God. Let Him be praised. 2. Working together for the cause of the Lord. 3. Philippians 1:1-11. I. Text. A. Opening. 1. Identifies himself –Paul and Timotheus. 2. Recipients-Philippi 3. Customary salutation. B. Prayer-fond remembrances. 1. Paul had then in his mind (3-6). a. Paul prayed often for them. b. Their partnership in the gospel (2 Cor. 9:13). c. Note (1 Cor. 9:14; Gal. 6:6). d. Confidence (verse 6). 2. Had them in his heart (verses 7-8). a. They were in his heart. b. They shared in his bonds, defense of the gospel, and confirmation. c. They longed after him with great affection. 3. Had them in his prayers (9-11). a. Paul was a man of prayer. b. Love may abound. c. They may prove. d. Stand the test of the sun. e. Bear fruits of righteousness II. What does this matter to me? A. Good relationships bring you great joy. 1. A good relationship with God. a. Be at peace with God (Rom. 5:1). b. Obedient (Jn. 15:14; Ps. 76:11). c. Prayer (Acts 9:11). 2. A good relationship with man. a. Expectation (Rom. 13:8; Jn. 15:12). b. Deep and abiding relationship. B. Distinguish between good and evil (Heb. 5:14). Right and wrong, permissible and advisable, truth and error, Old Testament and New Testament, church and denominationalism, character and reputation. C. Be genuine. Show yourself a pattern of good works. Practice what you preach (Gal. 5:25; Titus 1:16; 2:7). D. God is in control (2 Chron. 20:6; 1 Chron. 29:11).
