Christian Responsibility
Introduction: 1. When you were given your job did you receive a job description? 2. We Christians have a job description. 3. Look at Philippians 2:12-18. I. Work out your own salvation (verses 12, 13). A. Out salvation is a matter of personal responsibility. 1. In salvation there is God’s part. It includes grace, nmercy, Jesus (Heb. 7:25) 1 Thes. 5:9. 2. There is my responsibility to accept (Acts 2:40; Gal. 6:5). B. I must: 1. Obey. Keep on obeying (Ja. 1:22; 1 Tim. 6:14; Mt. 19:17). 2. Have the right attitude a) Fear-respectful behavior (1 Cor. 10:12; Heb. 2:3) b) Trembling (Isa. 66:2). 3. Heb. 12:28. C. God is working “good” within us-offers salvation to and for us, are we accepting such or rejecting such? II. Shine as lights (verses 14, 15). A. Negatively speaking we are not 1. To grumble-murmur, complain (1 Cor. 10:10; Jude 16). 2. Disputing-arguments, fault finding, contentious (2 Tim. 2:24). B. (Rather), positively-Be: 1. Blameless-one without fault. A good person (2 Pet. 3:14; Rom. 16:19). 2. Harmless-innocent, pure hearted (Phil. 4:8; 1 Tim. 1:5). 3. Without rebuke-above reproach-not involved in questionable behavior (1 Thes. 1:6-10). C. This world needs to see Christ in us (Acts 4:12; Rom. 1:8). D. What does the world see in you? III. Holding the truth (verses 16-18). A. Holding forth>like a torch. Sending the gospel forth (Mt. 28:18-20; 1 Cor. 1:23; Rom. 2:19; Gal. 6:6; 1 Tim. 2:4). B. Holding on to the truth-don’t stop or give up. Live faithfully to the end( 2 Tim. 4:4-8; Col. 1:23; Titus 1:9; 2 Thes. 2:15). C. Paul saw his life as a sacrifice. What did he give up? 2 Cor. 11:24f. Paul had spent his life in service (2 Cor. 5:9). Conclusion: 1. How will your mentors feel about you? 2. Such is a reason for rejoicing. Because Of His Grace Entered on 6/6/2010
