Introduction: 1. What controls your decisions? 2. We are to be led by what is right. 3. Phil. 3:1-11. I. A warning to behold (verses 1-8). A. Beware of false teachers. 1. Words of warning. 2. Characterizations. a) dogs-vicious packs, barking, etc. b) evil workers (2 Cor. 11:13), c) Concision-mutilation of the flesh 1 Kings 18:28. Nutshell: Beware of false teachers (Mt. 7:15). B. Beware of false doctrines (verse 3). They have put confidence in the flesh. C. An example to behold. Paul was persecutor, blasphemer, blameless, kept all of the rules (Rom. 7:25). D. Really-Who are we to be (verse 3)? 1. Offer spiritual worship (Jn. 4:23, 24). 2. Rejoice in the glory of Jesus Christ, not in the works of the flesh (Gal. 6:14; Heb. 5:8, 9). 3. Put no confidence in the flesh (Col. 2:11) but in Jesus (Heb. 2:9, 14). II. A purpose to be followed (verses 7-11). A. A price was to be paid (verse 7). Paul counted all things but loss. What did Paul give up? (Jewish way, heritage, family connections, easy life, etc. He counted the cost (Lk. 14:26f.). Today look at what we might lose-job, habit, relationship, a priority, etc. (Mt. 16:24; Lk. 9:23). B. A purpose that truly motivated him (verses 9-11). 1. Gain Christ. 2. Be found in Him (verse 9). To be found righteous. (Rom. 1:16, 17; 5:1, 2; 8:1-4). 3. Might know him (verse 10). 4. Might attain to the resurrection. (Eph. 1:19, 20; Jn.5:28; 2 Cor. 4:14; 1 Cor. 6:14).
